As a psychotherapist in the Midwest, I have had the opportunity to work with a number of women regarding the issues that are important to them. In my work, I found I had several women that were in the Baby Boomer and beyond age range, that were walking into a new territory in their life. The children had left home, some were single, others had spouses that were thinking of retiring or had retired, with individual and family health issues as part of the mix. The underlying question became, ‘what do I do with my life now,’ ‘how can I create enjoyment in my life,’ ‘where can I make new social connections,’ and ‘I would love to travel, but I have no one to go with me.’
Tackling issues with each woman, I noted the similarities. For over a year, one woman in particular revisited, with regularity, the fact that she had the desire to take a cruise and did not want to go alone. While acknowledging the fact that she was single, I encouraged her to ask a friend and even forwarded her cruise information over the internet. Patsy's persistence helped me keep focused on a solution, but it was still “right under the radar.”
I remember the moment, as a newer client glanced out my office window and wistfully said, “I'd sure like to go on a cruise, but I have no one to go with me.” It was like a bolt of lightening on February 28, 2006. Finally, I got the message and started researching the idea of creating a website for women, by women, to meet the needs and desires of women across the country! Just Us Girls Travel came into being to bring all of the facets together that women were wanting! We are empowering women to experience new joy in life by making new social connections through the site, fulfill their desire to travel, while learning and growing through the information included on the site. At Just Us Girls Travel, we will be addressing the areas of health and wellness, travel, fitness, finances, beauty, mental health, spirituality and more…
As we developed the questionnaire and brought the idea to women across the country, an excitement stirred! The constant comments ranged from, ‘can I sign up now,’ ‘I want to tell my friend,’ and ‘my mother/sister/aunt would love this.’ There was a definite need that Just Us Girls Travel could fill!
My goal has always been to empower a client to breakthrough to a new level of personal fulfillment. I believe part of this fulfillment involves meeting our desire to “give back” and make this world a better place.
